“I can’t afford custom drapery.”
“I can’t afford custom drapery.”
How many times have you heard a client say “I can’t afford custom drapery?” What these individuals do not know is how much energy they can save by properly treating their windows with custom draperies.
The US Department of Energy stated in February 2009 that up to 30% of energy is lost through bare windows. Further, they say that adding quality drapery panels with proper linings and interlinings, along with cornices or valances can reduce energy losses by 25%. Flimsy, ready-made curtains and economy blinds can’t compete against these facts.
We suggest lined and interlined traversing over-drapery with sheers to create a tighter air space and more functionality. Flannel is an excellent interlining while also adding a sound barrier. Add a ceiling mounted cornice or valance to maximize energy savings.
For warmer climates, experts in Florida tell us that neutral colored fabrics with blackout lining reduce heat gains by 33%.
